Laura Mercier's Limited Edition Chrome Extravagance Collection for fall 2015 

When this palette was first revealed to me, I knew it was going to be an exciting collection. I'm pretty big on Limited Editions and if it's Laura, I just can't stand to pass on it.

The packaging of this Eye Chrome palette is thin, lightweight and aesthetically pleasing. The design and look of this palette is completely new, different from their usual distinctive packaging. Included in this compact is a mirror and 4 chrome eyeshadows. This quad eyeshadow palette includes intensely bold and striking shades which are appropriately described as "Playful. Sparkling. Glamorous." This palette features unique, innovative pigment emulsions that can be used dry for a foiled effect or wet for a high coverage metal chrome effect. These are rich, pigmented shades - dry and thin in consistency, but with a soft and velvety texture.  Best applied on top of a base primer and packed on with clean fingers or a dense brush.

Shades included in this palette are 'Iced Nickel', 'Purple Chrome', 'Blue Steel' and 'Aluminium Grey'. Each of these shades are extremely shimmery, with a metallic sheen and are true to colour. When used dry, a couple of the colours do tend to look a little dry, applied unevenly or lacked pigmentation, so you're definitely going to have to rely on a primer to do most of the work.

"Iced Nickel"

This shade translate as a rich metallic silver, highly pigmented and reflective. This applied evenly and really well and was easy to sweep over the lids and blend out. This shade can be used wet or dry without a problem and the colour pay off is sensational.

"Purple Chrome"

This shade is so lustrous. It applies and blends quite well with a flat shader brush, however, I find that this applies a lot more smoothly, has a better finish and colour pay off when used wet. 'Purple Chrome' does seem to be a little more on the sheer/semi-transluscent side, but it does have a gorgeous iridescent shimmer to it.

"Blue Steel"

I had a little bit of difficulty with this shade. This went on a bit patchy and the glitters seemed to look a little crumbly and dry…and it lacked pigmentation. Trying to blend this was a little frustrating as most of the colour and glitter would simply be swept away and what's left is remnants of 'Blue Steel'. Fortunately, there is still hope for this shade! When it's pressed on with a damp brush or fingers, it actually turns out to be quite decent. After a bit of persistence, I finally made it work for me - I use this shade to line my eyes and it really helps to make them stand out. Of course you could also use this to smoke out your liner or press it on with a push eyeliner brush on top of a liquid, gel or kohl eyeliner, whatever works for you.

"Aluminium Grey"

No problems with this shade, I love using this both wet and dry. It's thin, smooth and rich in colour - super intense and highly pigmented. This is the ultimate shade for glamorous smokey eye looks. I use this to deepen the outer V and I'm happy with how well it blends. Very seamless.

Despite a couple of minor disappointments, I still believe that this palette is absolutely stunning (especially when it's used wet) and I definitely see myself choosing this for hot dates and special events where it's pretty much customary to go hard on the make up.

Overall, this is quite a fancy, luxurious palette…I definitely recommend checking it out at a counter while there's still a chance. It's good to have for creating smokey, dramatic statement eye looks. This is now available online or in stores at David Jones nationwide and retails for $59 aud.
