Urban Geodes?

A walk around the streets of Los Angeles can turn up treasures.  Tucked inside crumbling brick walls, unused telephone booths, and rusted drainage pipes are geodes - those crystals that form inside rocks!  These geodes aren't minerals, though.  Artist Paige Smith has created them out of paper and installed them around L.A. in her Urban Geodes Street Art Project.
You can see all of the "geode" installations on her website, but here are photos of some of them:

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Smith explains that in a busy urban area like L.A., people often "miss the tiny details, the little beautiful things."  She says that she feels like she is "speaking to the people that take the time to get out of their car, walk the streets, and really see the details."  She says she likes rewarding them.
What a great idea!  Wouldn't you love to find a treasure as you go through your busy day?
