Regarde Signe de Chanel - Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Topkapi

Finger swatches (dry): Regarde Signe de Chanel - Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadow in Topkapi |
To me, this quad is better quality than the other recent quad I bought from Chanel called 'Lagons' (you can see my comparison of Lagons with a Burberry eye shadow here if you're interested). I found the Lagons one to be a bit powdery and did not have very good colour pay off when applied dry, but performed exceptionally well when applied with a damp brush. I suspect it may be because this is not in 'baked' form like the usual Chanel quads we get here in Europe/Australia? (i.e. like the joues contraste blush which are quite hard). I was VERY impressed with the quality of the recent spring collection 5 eyeshadow set, which was the very first Chanel eye shadow I bought, so I was keen on getting this one - anything that I can easily apply with my finger tips is a bonus in my books and these two eye shadow sets are so easy to work with!
Overall, this quad is a great neutral set that can be worn any time of year (so will definitely get a lot of wear out of it) and the gold just adds that nice shimmer for special occasions. I like to wear the gold on the inner corners of my eyes. My favourite however is the taupe! I love this on it's own all over the lid, or layered on top of the bronze but only in the middle part of my lids to highlight and add dimension.
Joues Contraste in Or
When I saw this gold blush in the promo, I must admit, I wasn't that keen on it as even though it's a "blush", most people said it makes a good highlighter, and I wasn't prepared to fork out a lot of money just for a highlighter (which I already have in my stash!). Then the sales lady over the phone said it looks really pretty when worn over the top of the rouge blush as a *blush*, I thought well that would be more useful, and something different! When I received this, swatched it and put it on, I ended up liking it more than I initially thought I would.
This vibrant rouge is one of the main reasons I was drawn to this collection. I haven't seen anything like it and I've been looking for the perfect rouge blush to complement my red lipsticks so this was it! Be warned! Be VERY light handed as a tiny bit goes a long way! And you don't want to look like a clown or had a rough beating. LOL. (Note, the blended swatch above was done quite heavily for the purposes of showing the colour). It does have shimmer but not really noticeable when applied to the cheeks and blended out. I either use my Shiseido blush brush which is very soft, but blends out this product very well, or my Nars Yachiyo Brush which is perfect for applying just the right amount and blending out highly pigmented blushes like this quite easily. I literally just need one very light tap of the brush onto the product and that's enough to give me a subtle flush of rouge to the cheeks.
You can see in the above photo that when the gold is layered on top of the rouge blush, it does tone it down quite a bit. Looks quite pretty together too when worn as a blush indeed!
Rouge Allure lipstick in Rouge Byzantine
The final product in this collection is the Rouge Allure lipstick in Rouge Byzantine. This is my first Rouge Allure lipstick and I must say I do like the more creamy and moisturising texture of this compared with the Rouge Coco lipsticks, which can be a bit drying especially for me in the winter. I also like the sleek and slightly heavy packaging, and the rather nifty press and release mechanism when opening and closing the product from the tube. =) The pigment as you can see is strong. The colour is stunning - a vibrant blue-based cherry red with a nice sheen.
Overall recommendation
If you're on a budget, I would recommend getting at least one of the blushes especially if you're after something unique, but still wearable (the Rouge is my favourite!). My next recommendation if you can afford it, would be the eye shadow quad if you love taupes and neutrals, you would definitely get a lot of use out of it and the quality is amazing. Otherwise if you're a lipstick lover, love Chanel and do not already own a blue-based cherry red then you know what to get!

It does have sparkles in it - in fact it the thing that shows up on my olive/tanned skin when blended out with a brush (rather than the yellow pigment you see when I swatch with a finger), but not too over the top at all in my opinion. It's definitely subtler than I thought it would be. The sparkles are not huge chunks of glitter or anything like that. I think the "density" (for lack of a better word that comes to my mind at present!) of the gold sparkles is definitely not as much as you would find in say Nars Orgasm or Benefit's Bella Bamba blushes, so you don't have to be anywhere near as careful with it. I can put on a few dabs or more of the Chanel Or blush and it's still quite wearable and because the sparkles are quite sparse, you don't ever get huge chunks of sparkles sitting on the pores and accentuating them as much. So this is more wearable for those with large pores (like me!).
This is beautiful if worn for going out in the evening, because the lighting will just reflect these gorgeous but relatively subtle shimmers. It's subtle enough that you could also wear it during the day if you wanted to really. I suspect this would be nice in summer over a lovely bronzer on tanned skin, too for instance. It adds a bit of sophisticated hint of gold sparkle if applied in the high points of your cheeks or layered on top of another more pigmented/vibrant blush, and/or layered on top of your eye shadow just in the middle part of your eye lids for added dimension. I will definitely be wearing this out at night and special occasions like Christmas!
